If you are part of a team or club, whether that be football, rugby, swimming, cricket, athletics or something else – not necessarily sports-based either, the chances are you will need to fundraise to buy some kind of kit or equipment. For example your team or club may require money for:
- A team kit such as a football kit
- Equipment like a new training apparatus
- Fundraising to attend a tournament
- A repair bill for your clubhouse or venue
- Advertising costs to attract new members
- Or simply costs to help your team or club pay the general running costs.
Fundraising is tough
Whatever the reason for your fundraising for your team or club, it is becoming harder to achieve mainly due to the economic claim, as people dont have much spare money to part with. Adding to this problem is, people these days simply dont carry cash around with them in this (almost) cashless society.
Grassroots football teams often struggle to find sponsors, as businesses are tightening their purse strings partly due to the cost-of-living crisis & the strained economic climate. These businesses provide vital funding to cover the costs of team kits, so what can you do when you cannot find a sponsor?
The costs of a team kit
Let’s say your team has 15 players & your team requires a home & an away kit. This total cost could be over £800 if you used one of the cheaper brands like Joma on Total Football Direct
- 30 shirts (15 home & 15 away) = £367
- 30 shorts (15 home & 15 away) = £283
- 30 socks (15 home & 15 away) = £168
This comes to a total of £819 for 30 kits – when a bulk discount is applied. The averages out at about £54 per kit (home & away) for a full team of 15 players
How to fundraise to cover your kit costs?
Using the 12th Man platform you can ask a parent/guardian of each of the 15 players to setup a quick online football scratch card of say 20 teams & set the cost to £5 per team. This will quickly generate a total of £100, giving you £55 towards your kit costs and leaving you £45 for the game winner. If each player on your team does this, then fundraising for your new team kit gets that little bit easier.
Try creating a football scratch card game for your player, next, tell the other players on your team to do the same & see how easy this is!
